Psalm 85                                                                             Psalm 85

Prayer for God’s Mercy upon the Nation.                          Prayer for Humanity’s Forgiveness.

For the choir director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.        For the class. A Psalm of Sonya
1 O LORD, You showed favor to Your land;                     1 O child, you gave mercy to your enemies;
You restored the captivity of Jacob.                                      You accepted the apology of abusers.
2 You forgave the iniquity of Your people;                         2 You acquitted the plotters of your death;
You covered all their sin. Selah.                                            You covered all their intentions.
3 You withdrew all Your fury;                                            3 You withdrew the need for revenge;
You turned away from Your burning anger.                         You turned away from blood-filled thoughts

4 Restore us, O God of our salvation,                                 4 Forgive Me, O child of My creation,
And cause Your indignation toward us to cease.                 And cause your accusation to be silenced.
5 Will You be angry with us forever?                                  5 Will your pain blind you forever?
Will You prolong Your anger to all generations?                Will you proclaim My absence to all generations?
6 Will You not Yourself revive us again,                            6 Will you not yourself receive Me again,
That Your people may rejoice in You?                                  That your children may abide in Me?

7 Show us Your lovingkindness, O LORD,                       7 Show Me your ability to start over, O child,
And grant us Your salvation.                                                And relinquish unto Me your will

8 I will hear what God the LORD will say;                         8 I will listen for what My children will pray;
For He will speak peace to His people,                                 For they will pray release to their God,

to His godly ones;                                                               to their Holy Protector;
But let them not turn back to folly.                                        But let Me not withhold My intervening presence.
9 Surely His salvation is near to those who [2] fear Him,     9 Surely their love is calling to the God they reverence,
That glory may dwell in our land.                                         That that dependence may rule their conscience.
10 Lovingkindness and truth have met together;                  10 Humbleness and questioning are not strangers;
Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.                 Regret and anticipation now know each other.
11 Truth springs from the earth,                                           11 Peace springs from the earth,
And righteousness looks down from heaven.                       And sympathy rains from heaven
12 Indeed, the LORD will give what is good,                      12 Indeed, humanity will trust My Name,
And our land will yield its produce.                                      And My restoration will yield its joy.
13 Righteousness will go before Him                                  13 Compensation will go before them
And will make His footsteps into a way.                              And the trail that led to separation will be covered.
